about

OVERVIEW

Campsites is at the intersection of field recording with resonant drone.

At this intersection sits seven campsites.

Captured sounds from nature combined with radiant drones transformed into gently focused rays of colored sound.

Haire’s drones bloom as distillations of the resonant frequencies of the moment.

These are works composed with sublime nuance.

Within these long arcs time moves slowly. Rarely found is the metronome that marks the larghissimo time of Haire’s work.

These are works created by a practiced artist and listener—a desert wanderer.

SHORT BIO

Doug Haire is a resident of the Pacific NW with 30 years as a recording engineer and producer. He has some 400 album projects to his credit, plus eight releases of his own.

Haire is a member of the Seattle Phonographer’s Union, a protean collective of sound artists, composers, and recordists who improvise live in real-time with unprocessed field recordings.

He founded KEXP’s Sonarchy Radio show in Seattle where, for 22 years, he produced hourlong live broadcasts providing avant-garde musicians a space to perform, experiment, suss out ideas or create chaos.
